My place for Tolkien fangirlism and lazy attempts to draw.
Thinking of Teleri pearl farming.
How they invent it with the help of Uinen (who was upset about the waste of oysters in pearl hunting). How it becomes the matter of competition and pride like Noldor jewel-making. They breed the best oysters and learn how to feed them to get the needed color and size. The shallow waters of Eldamar are filled with oyster baskets. The harvesting day is the great feast in honour of Ulmo and the sea-maiar.
After the Kinslaying, the remaining Teleri try to keep the farms running, but their numbers are too small, and unique breeds are left without care and lost. Pearl mosaics of many colors are on the walls of Alqualonde, young and shining forever unlike pearls in mortal lands, but new ones as beautiful as them cannot be made anymore.
adenydd said: I love the idea of them going to Tol Morwen! (I personally don’t have them getting back together in my headcanon for various reasons, but i respect yours as you actually acknowledge túrin and aren’t just having it happen because you loathe him)I just have personal experience. I broke up and made up over a year ago. And we’re only humans in far less than ideal conditions, lol.
I don’t believe in character hate. I believe in artistic purpose. Every character is a color in a painting, it may not be your favorite color but the picture is only complete with all of them. Also, conflict is the driving force of a story. That means there will always be characters who are not on ‘your’ side of the conflict. Only a reader who doesn’t understand the rules of literature would want to erase them because of dislike.
